Poás Volcano tour

This tour begins with a nice drive through the lush coffee plantations and flower farms of Heredia and Alajuela.

The volcano is surrounded by the Poas National Park which spans over an area of 9884 square acres, with tropical vegetation and animal life.

From the top of the volcano, the visitor can witness the exciting geyser style activity of the volcano (eruptions of gas, steam and ash) emanating from one of the largest craters of the world.

You will enjoy walking through the pathways outlined by the beauty of the "midget forest", and the light blue lake surrounded by exuberant primary forest. The volcano has an elevation of 2704 meters above sea level (8,923 feet).

The temperature is cold and wet as the fog remains in the mountain most time. After visiting the main crater you can walk a little bit more to an old crater situated a little higher than the main one.

This crater has a fresh water lagoon and you can admire it from a look out point built at the top for visitors.

At the main entrance of the volcano there is a museum and a video room. There is also a small restaurant available where you can have a coffe, a hot chocolat or whatever you wish to get hot.
